Given the state budget issues, there is the posibility of major changes in Local Government Aid (LGA) which cities like ours receive. What do you think the city council needs to do in this situation?

With the prospects of losing the majority of our funding from the state we need to be cutting our budget. But if the city is not willing to publish what that budget is on their website, we can’t really know what they are spending and we have to rely on them to inform us. The city has not posted a budget since 2007 on their website. Shouldn’t we be a little concerned about this? I don’t see this mentioned in the paper and I don’t see comments from others about how ’shady’ this looks. Our city manager has stated that he wants to go back to our 2008 budget for 2010, but since we don’t know what that was how are we to know that the city is truly doing this?

The budget has now been posted. (Over a year late on the 2008, is that illegal?) I will be looking it over in the next couple of weeks to see where the city can cut some money. Hopefully, the city can be convinces this is a good thing-to cut budget.
